University Children´s Hospital Zurich

A Lighthouse Project for Health, Research, and Architecture

New Work, Zurich, 2024
The overall outcome of this project is the result of close collaboration between Kinzo and Herzog & de Meuron. The well-thought-out spatial and design planning puts the users at the center and enables agile exchange as well as the fulfillment of all functional requirements.

The elongated south building houses patients, doctors, nursing staff, and administration, while the cylindrical north building (LLF) is used for teaching, laboratories, and research. Both buildings are connected by a tunnel in the basement—two different structures, one common design language.

Due to high capacity utilization at the previous location, a state-of-the-art new building is being constructed in Zurich-Lengg. In collaboration with Herzog & de Meuron, Kinzo is designing the interiors of the south and north buildings, which architecturally interweave care and research. The elongated south building houses patients, doctors, nursing staff, and administration, while the cylindrical north building (LLF) is used for teaching, laboratories, and research.
