The DB Gasometer: Historic industrial monument
becomes the centerpiece
of the EUREF-Campus

The historic Gasometer in Berlin Schöneberg is currently experiencing a new era. A place of collaboration has been created in the industrial monument for various divisions of Deutsche Bahn AG - “from gas tank to think tank”.

New Design

The listed 78-metre-high steel structure forms the heart of the EUREF-Campus, a real-life laboratory for the energy and mobility transition. Its golden rivet and historic steel structure are characteristic of the Berlin skyline. The expansion of the DB Gasometer has created a central location for the Digitalization and Technology department, Digital Rail Germany, DB Regio's Autonomous Driving team and the Ecosystems & Innovation team in DB Cargo's IT division, which were previously spread across nine locations in Berlin.

Team-oriented planning

During the planning process, DB Immobilien attached great importance to actively involving employees. In an intensive participation process, the needs of future users were recorded and translated into room modules.

The shape of the steel structure is reflected in a graphically reduced form on the glass partition walls of the rooms. Steel plates from the former gas storage facility were given the numbers of the various floors as part of the orientation system.

The historical significance of the industrial monument was integrated into the interior design in order to create a local reference to the special location and strengthen the connection from the outside to the inside.

In addition, green accents lend the interior of the building a touch of nature. In addition to the marketplaces for networking and casual exchanges, the loggias were also designed for working and relaxing with impressive views over Berlin.

The DB Gasometer has become a fine example of the combination of historical significance and forward-looking function.
